Devices for a New Agenda (On the Hunt)

On the Hunt is a video made up of shapeless and uncertain images, which wish to activate a search for some future. This video has as its soundtrack the first track of the album Everywhere At The End Of Time, by The Caretaker, called It's just a burning memory. Leyland Kirby is the musician behind this musical project, which had a musical, critical, and theoretical relationship with philosopher Mark Fisher. 

Mark Fisher was a writer, music critic, and theorist based in London. After initially achieving acclaim for his k-punk blog in the early 2000s, Fisher published several books including the highly influential Capitalist Realism: Is There No Alternative? (2009) which popularized Fredric Jameson’s remark, “It is easier to imagine an end to the world than an end to capitalism.” When Fisher died by suicide in January 2017 he was said to be planning a new book titled Acid Communism: On Postcapitalist Desire.

 

As a tribute to Mark Fisher and Leyland Kirby, but also as a project, this work intends to operate through the enigma of the nebulous search, and once situated in this interstice, between flashes of light, can finally help us to see - despite everything.

 

"Devices for a New Agenda (On the Hunt)" is a work that presents shapeless and uncertain images, aiming to activate a search for some future. With the soundtrack of "It's just a burning memory" by The Caretaker, the project pays homage to and dialogues with the ideas of philosopher Mark Fisher, known for his blog k-punk and the book "Capitalist Realism" (2009). Fisher, who criticized the difficulty of imagining the end of capitalism, was planning to write "Acid Communism: On Post-Capitalist Desire" before his suicide in 2017. This work seeks to operate through the enigma of the nebulous search, situating itself between flashes of light to help us see, despite everything.
